Not everybody gets a good night’s sleep, whether it’s because of wandering thoughts, uncomfortable sleeping positions, or even extremely bright rooms. However, deep and uninterrupted sleep is important, especially during this pandemic. After all, studies have shown how sleep is a natural way to boost one’s immune system. Fortunately, technology has provided several solutions, each aiming to solve specific sleeping challenges.
Here are the best of them:
There are a lot of sleep trackers in the app market. They “monitor” your sleeping patterns, or record how many hours you don’t pick up your phone, and recommend solutions based on their findings. However, there are also physical sleep trackers on the market that let you do all that without configuring anything. For example, FitSleep tracks your body’s sound waves and sends out alpha noise (or sounds your body is most comfortable with) during the hours you’re asleep.
There’s also EMFIT’s QS sleep monitor, which tracks heartbeats. In the morning, it tells you when you enter every sleep stage (Light, Deep, REM) and how you can optimize your bedtime routine to make them align with the recommended value for your body type and age.
Snoring is caused when airflow is blocked or restricted, increasing the chances of waking up periodically throughout the night. Luckily, companies such as Smart Nora and 10minds have created pillows that can sense your snores and prevent them from occurring. PCBs today are extremely flat and flexible, so it was only a matter of figuring out how to connect all the components without making the user feel like there’s a working machine underneath their head. This computer-enabled design used net ties to meet PCB requirements and establish its schematic wiring. By attaching a type of copper footprint, the motors can gently shift your head to a position where you’re less likely to snore.
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night because the air was too cold or hot? A cooling mattress exists to prevent this. Eight Sleep’s smart mattress called The Pod is equipped with their patented “Active Grid” technology that automatically adjusts itself to the temperature that you’re comfortable sleeping in. It knows this based on your movements. Plus, it runs on water, so the temperature is evenly distributed throughout the mattress. The Pod can even be programmed to gently wake you up by slowly adjusting the heat.
We’re constantly hearing why using a sleeping mask is considered good to help you sleep. However, it can be considered one of the most important sleeping-aid devices you could own.
A sleeping mask doesn’t only block out the surrounding light, nor does it protect you from a snoring spouse (depending on what sleeping mask you’re using). But instead has a direct impact on your general well-being.
Here we have put together an article outlining why a sleeping mask is so important.
Consider this, our bodies have an automated timer within them, when we see daylight, our bodies naturally tell us it’s time to wake-up, get going, and feel fresh (however, in some cases this isn’t the case), and in the evening, our bodies tell us it is time to sleep.
When we are sleeping, our bodies need complete darkness to ensure we are telling our bodies it’s time to sleep. If we are constantly ambushed with light seeping through our eyelids, it’s going to make it more difficult for our bodies to drift off, and enter a REM-cycle.
So, a sleeping mask is primarily used to block out the light. If your sleeping mask is unable to do so, then you need to upgrade it immediately.
It is said that roughly 60 million Americans suffer from insomnia. This is a staggering number, and we can only assume a large majority of these Americans don’t use a sleeping mask.
There are numerous sleeping masks that claim to help their users overcome insomnia but in fact, a large portion of these masks are unable to, and in some cases could even make falling asleep even harder for the user.
Consider two of the most important fundamental properties of a sleeping mask. One, the fabric must be soft and comfortable around the face when in-use, and secondly, the sleeping mask must be tight enough, not too tight, to ensure 100% light-blocking. If it does not, then drifting off to sleep will be harder, and will leave a bad experience in your mind.
This couldn’t be more true. We recently wrote an article based on the importance of sleep in the workplace. But, we want to reiterate this. Losing hours of sleep at night will make you feel drowsy, irate, and unfocused when you go about your day-to-day working habits.
A sleeping mask’s most important feature is to help you get a good night’s sleep. Incidentally improving your overall mood when getting into the office every day.
How many times have you woken up feeling as though you didn’t get enough sleep? We can assume, countless times, and this could be because of the environment you sleep in, or the sleep-aid devices you use.
If you want to begin feeling more refreshed night after night, sleep after sleep, then investing in a high-quality sleeping mask is an essential investment.
]]>It’s always a difficult challenge to get a good night’s sleep when you’re constantly under pressure and caught in the same routine of restlessness. However, there are numerous devices out there to help you sleep better, one of them is a meditation sleep mask.
A meditation sleep mask is, in some cases, a relatively new device to enter the market. Meditation sleep masks have been proven to not only enhance your sleeping experience, but also your overall health.
Understandably, many people view a meditation sleep mask as a device they’d not think would help them get a better night’s sleep. Many people are mostly searching for 100% light blocking sleep masks, not meditation sleep masks.
However, the design and texture of a meditation sleep mask is very similar to what we are all familiar with in a conventional sleep mask. But, and here’s the science behind it, a meditation sleep mask has built-in functions to train your breathing and relax your mind.
We all know how important a relaxed mind is, and how it can greatly enhance your way of sleeping. For example, the Dreamlight Zen mindful breathing mask is full of unique features. The key feature of this meditation mask is the glowing orange lights that help you control your breathing, assisted with a meditation audio track.
We all must be thinking, “why do I need such a tech-driven sleep mask?” Of course, there have been numerous studies conducted on what’s the best way for humans to sleep better. And many of the findings constantly come back to, healthy diet, regular exercise, reduced stress, etc….
A meditation sleep mask is able to tick off many of those things, and leave you feeling more relaxed and refreshed. Having a good night’s sleep is the cornerstone to feeling better during the day, and having a more productive day in the office.
How a good night’s sleep can increase productivity in the workplace?
It’s becoming more and more popular among professional service industries that they lack the sleep they need to fully focus on their work. By which, many mistakes can be made when you’re feeling tired. This is why meditation sleep masks were made, to enhance your overall sleep.
As you can see a meditation sleep mask has numerous benefits to your overall well-being and makes you feel calmer and relaxed.
At Dreamlight, and many of our raving fans, are screaming YES. It is time to upgrade your sleep mask. You may just be using a simple eye mask to get a good night’s sleep but there are so many instances when your ordinary sleep mask may let you down.
Our new Dreamlight Zen sleep mask has numerous built-in features which greatly excels when compared to other sleep masks, making it a market’s number one choice.
Alternatively, we have a selection of sleep masks which have their own unique features. Feel free to take a look by clicking HERE.

It’s funny to ask ”how does a sleep mask work?’ but in fact, many people are lost in understanding ‘how does a sleep mask, work for you?’. We at Dreamlight are constantly asked this question, and we reply with the same answer. A sleep mask helps you in many areas of sleep deprivation.
Let us explain. A sleep mask has many key benefits, which greatly help users overcome night-to-night troubles.
One of the main areas a sleep mask benefits you is by decreasing the chances of insomnia. Insomnia can be overcome by decreasing the amount of light around you when trying to fall asleep.
However, we’d like to jump into some of the mechanics of a sleep mask, and how it physically works to get you that good night’s sleep you deserve.
You may have brought a sleep mask before and felt the mask’s material and thought “wow this is soft” well that is of course by design. Sleep masks are usually made by using soft materials that feel comfortable.
In turn, there are some materials used in sleep masks that can assist with your skincare. In fact, according to Dermstore, it’s advised to use a sleep mask to seal in your skincare creams for an enhanced effect.
Of course, a sleep mask would be very useless if it was unable to do the one job you buy them for, which is blocking our surrounding light.
A mask is designed so that when you’re wearing them, all light around you is completely blocked by the mask. This allows you to use a sleep mask anywhere, during any time of the day.
It does this by using a firm strap, which you use to keep the sleep mask in place, and with slightly indented areas around your eyes. Think of a pair of noise-canceling headphones, with the added material that goes over your ears, a sleep mask is similar, but the material goes over your eyes.
Short answer, no. A sleep mask is a very good investment, as its benefits greatly outweigh (if there are any) cons to using a sleep mask.
According to Healthline there are very few cons to using a sleep mask. However, you must still be careful of sleep masks that use a material that is detrimental to your skin’s health and to stay clear from DIY sleep masks.
Of course, you really know the answer to this question. You’d more than likely use a sleep mask on a regular basis, depending on how much it benefits you.
There is no real limitation or side-effects from using your sleep mask every night. In fact, it’s probably better for you, as you’ll have a more peaceful night’s sleep every night.
In conclusion, there is a huge variety of sleep masks out on the market. What’s even better is that you can try them all and see which one fits your needs.

Trying to get a good night’s sleep is an extremely difficult annoyance to some people. So, we look toward things that can assist us in, what can feel like, an eternity of tiredness and exhaustion.
The most popular solution is buying a sleep mask. A sleep mask can come in numerous shapes and forms, that offer a variety of different functions. It has been proven that sleep masks work, and can help people suffering from insomnia overcome sleep deprivation.
However, let’s deep dive into the benefits of a sleep mask, and how they compare to other sleep aid devices out on the market.
Researchers who study sleep are pretty unanimous in the assessment that the darker your room, the better your sleep. However, a lot of us are unable to afford such luxuries. Which is why a sleep mask is a much cheaper, sometimes, a better alternative.
Sleep is in fact an evolutionary need. Meaning, our pre-ancestors are naturally diurnal. Humans are designed to be awake during the day and sleep during the night. Before all these sleep aid products came about, our natural body clock would tell us it is time to sleep when light [sunlight] is absent.
Scientists have also linked darkness [when sleeping] to increased REM sleep, meaning you’re more likely to sleep deeper when in a pitch-black environment. A sleep mask’s core function is to be 100% light-blocking, at least most of them are, and with that, you can simulate the darkness that your body requires to help you drift off to sleep.
Firstly sleep masks don’t have any side effects to help you sleep, unlike conventional sleep aid pharmaceutics. This means that by simulating a completely dark environment before going to sleep can already increase your chances of reducing stress, wakefulness, and insomnia.
When sleeping on a pillow you usually wake up with the impressions of your pillowcase on your face. Over time, it can actually lead to wrinkles, or worse, acne, which is something none of us want.
Your sleep mask can actually do more good for your skin or your acne than harm. This is because acne can worsen due to lack of sleep. This is why using a sleep mask can dramatically change you from a tired guerilla, into a refreshed, energetic human being.
Perhaps you’ve tried a sleep mask before and thought, hmm this really isn’t for me, and thrown it away, or labeled sleep masks as ineffective pieces of fabric. But you could be wrong, or judging too soon, as there are hundreds of sleep masks on the market with their own functions and specifications.
In other words, we suggest you try numerous different sleep masks that are more suited to your needs. If you’re looking for a high-quality 100% light blocking sleep mask perhaps you can try our Dreamlight Ease sleep mask. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a sleep mask that has more sleep aid functions, we’d recommend trying our Dreamlight Zen meditation sleep mask.
]]>Sleep aid light is designed to, as it says, to aid you in going to sleep. However, there are numerous benefits to using sleep aid light as it can drastically improve your overall sleeping experience and help you wake up feeling refreshed and energetic, just as we all want to feel every morning when we wake up.
Selecting the right light to fall asleep is definitely an important aspect of the benefits of sleep aid light. Have you ever tried falling asleep with a bright white light on? It becomes significantly harder to drift off to sleep. On the other hand, have you tried sleeping to a warm orange light instead? The difference is staggering.
See the graph below (figure 1.0). We can see that people who are exposed to orange light are 32% more likely to fall asleep. Compared to people exposed to white light, who show a less than 1% increase in sleeping faster.
(Figure 1.0)
Sleep aid light should resemble relaxing colors. We tested four separate colors, orange light, red light, blue light, and white light. We found that the warmer colors performed much better than the colder colors.
This means, before going to sleep, you should expose yourself to orange or red glows, to help you relax your mind before falling asleep.
Our sleep mask, the Dreamlight Zen uses orange glows to help you fall asleep faster. It pulsates orange light in accordance with your breathing.
As we can see from figure 1.0. Orange pulsating lights are the most soothing colors for the eyes. If you’re looking to fall asleep faster and more effectively. Try investing in some warm glowing orange light bulbs, or invest some money in a device that can emulate the orange glow.
Sleep can be a key issue among many people, especially in America, which is why we must ensure we have as much advantage as possible to help us in drifting off to sleep.
Harsh lights can create irritants around the eyes, not only when you’re about to go to sleep, but also in general. This is why you must choose the warmer colors rather than the cooler colors.
There is an unsettling truth behind the reason why you cannot sleep well at night, and every morning you wake up feeling deprived of sleep. There are numerous causes, whether be genetic, or lifestyle, regardless has an impact on the way you’re living and understandably getting in the way of focusing on what really matters.
In fact, almost 50% of Americans suffer from sleep deprivation see (figure 1.0). This is an astoundingly high number of people who are not getting a good night’s sleep.
Figure 1.0
Luckily for us, there are solutions out there to help you overcome sleep deprivation. Here at Dreamlight, we understand fully the implication sleep deprivation can have on your life. This is why we built Dreamlight, to help educate you, and offer solutions to your sleeping problems.
Lets dive-in so that you won’t have another bad night’s sleep.
As mentioned above, there are numerous factors that cause sleep deprivation. In fact, 50-70 million US adults have a sleep disorder. The most common causes of sleep deprivation are lifestyle choices.
Your lifestyle is an extremely important factor when considering the origin of your sleep deprivation. If you’re not going to sleep at a ‘reasonable time’ and are staying up late watching the TV or your phone, then this could be one of the causes as to why you do not sleep well. Getting yourself into a proper sleeping routine will significantly improve your sleep.
On the other hand, you have more direct-to-health lifestyle choices which affect your sleep at night. The common direct-to-health lifestyle choices are smoking and drinking (see figure 2.0). You can see from our smoker vs non-smokers graph, that smokers have an 8% higher chance of sleep deprivation compared to non-smokers. If you want to overcome your sleep deprivation, then you must make changes in these two areas, otherwise, it may lead to serious health problems in the future.
Figure 2.0
Obesity. According to the CDC 39.8% of Americans are considered overweight. Which equates to roughly 90+ million Americans. Furthermore, 33% of overweight people sleep less than 7 hours a night. So, eating healthier and exercising regularly can greatly improve your overall sleep.
After making lifestyle choices, you may still be found struggling with sleep deprivation. For many reasons, this could be an internal mechanism inside your mind which tells your mind not to switch off at night.
On the market today, there is an astounding amount of sleep resources which will help ease your mind before going to sleep. One of which is sleep mask technology. When I say sleep mask technology, I mean we have come a long way from a conventional piece of fabric placed over our face, but instead evolved into a fusion between sleeping masks and technology.
Of course, we all know what a sleep mask is. It is a mask you wear around your head to block-out the light so that you can simulate a pitch-black environment ready for sleep.
There are different types of sleep masks out on the market today, some of which are plain and simple, others have unique features that enhance your user experience. I have created a shortlist describing different types of sleep masks.
A wrap-around sleep mask is a mask that has two ends that you wrap around your face. These masks are quite easy to use, as you don’t need to stretch anything over your head. The only issue is a wrap-around sleep mask would usually use velcro. Velcro can get caught up in your hair quite easily and even disturb your sleep through the night.
An elasticated sleep mask is basically an eye mask attached by an elasticated string that you stretch and place over your head. These types of sleep masks can overcome the velcro problem. But, you lose control over how tight or loose, you want the mask to feel around your face.
Enhanced sleep masks are masks that have added features. This has become a growing trend over the past few years, whereby sellers have begun adding electronics to their sleep masks. These added features usually consist of heating around the eyelids, perhaps sleep music, and other features that will aid you in getting to sleep faster.
Meditation sleep masks are even newer to the market. A mediation sleep mask, such as our Dreamlight Zen sleep mask, consists of a combination of features such as pulsating lights, sleep audio, built-in mediation guides, Bluetooth connectivity. A mediation sleep mask is positively the smartest sleep mask on the market.
The short answer is yes. A sleep mask can definitely help you overcome your sleeping problems. Here’s why:
Almost every sleep mask out on the market is designed to block out all light when in-use. This is a key feature of sleeping masks. The human body is designed to differentiate between daytime and nighttime. When you’re surrounded in complete darkness your body will automatically begin adjusting itself to sleep-mode.
Not all sleep masks can achieve this. However, a select few of sleeping masks can block out surrounding sound. This is a crucial element to being able to sleep better at night. As we are very sensitive to sounds and can give us a hard time trying to fall asleep with certain irritating sounds around us.
A sleep mask, depending on what material is used, can be very comfortable. Especially around the eyes and back of the head. The body must feel entirely comfortable in order to drift off to sleep faster. From feet to head, and a sleep mask can most certainly take care of the head’s comfort.
We have outlined many of the causes, and a few solutions to improving your overall sleep, and overcoming sleep deprivation. However, we have a few bones techniques you can try too:
Sleep music has great affects on calming your mind and helping you drift off to sleep faster. There are many sleep music playlists out there which are perfect to ease your mind into a dream-state. We have made a list of our favorite sleep music:
Of course, sleep deprivation can be a real pain, and cause many of us huge amounts of stress and discomfort when we don’t get a good night’s sleep. However, we have the power to change this and begin feeling better.
All we need to do is take a look at our lifestyle choices, perhaps invest in a sleep mask, and use sleep music to drift off to sleep faster.
Believe me once initiating all these three things you’ll begin noticing a tremendous difference in the way you sleep. We all need a good night’s rest, so it’s time you get yours.

It has been proven that the light from your screen can trick your mind to becoming more active, and the more active your mind is before sleeping will cause you issues trying to fall asleep. So before going to be, put your phone down and just relax for a least 30 minutes without looking at your screen.

Sleep deprivation is a constant irritation which only gets worse over time. As humans, when we’re deprived of sleep, we feel more angry, upset, and find ourselves unable to focus as though we were fully rested. In some cases, sleep deprivation can go on for years! Leaving you with this new characteristic which many find to dislike. We both know this is isn’t your real self, and you deserve the rest you need to feel rejuvenated and relaxed. Furthermore, sleep deprivation can significantly reduce your working efficiency, meaning your bedroom issues (pardon the pun) are brought with you into work.
There are numerous causes that affect your sleeping pattern and leaves you with sleep deprivation. We can easily outline the Google scare answer which is:
But we all know Google exaggerates symptoms of, well, anything, so we can’t exactly rely on this answer. However, what is true, and what many researchers have found is, that the most common reason for sleep deprivation is ultimately stress.
Now stress can occur in many forms. Consider, has there been a dramatic change in your schedule, at work, or at home? Have you just received a newborn into the family? (If so, congratulations!), or are you just under pressure generally, whether at work, health-wise, or annoying neighborhood gossip? Well, this all contributes to stress, and, inconsequently SLEEP DEPRIVATION.
Now, we are obviously a sleep mask company, who have created a leading technology sleep mask, especially considering it is perfect to overcome sleep deprivation, but, we understand, we don’t want to come across as to bias toward ourselves, which is why we will discuss OTHER sleep-aiding products. However, if you are interested, do check out our Dreamlight Zen mask, you’ll love it!
Okay, no more advertising. So, products that help you overcome sleep deprivation. This, in some ways, is a very broad question, which has a very broad answer. Because, not everyone is the same, and in all honesty, everyone will have different problems. So, I can only list out the obvious products, and I guess, ways to overcome sleep deprivation.
For one, meditating music. Just simply playing relaxing music before going to sleep can significantly improve your chances of a good night’s sleep. In fact:
So, as you can see, although it isn’t a physical product, it’s most certainly a product people can use almost anywhere.
On the other spectrum, you have medication to help you overcome sleep deprivation. However, there are many issues with taking medication, even prescribed, to help you sleep, as it can cause you with long term side effects. Which by no means, does anybody really want. Although, sleep medication is still an option for many who find the effects extremely useful to overcome sleep deprivation.
What exactly does sleep deprivation do to your mind? Let alone the feeling of being tired and exhausted, but rather the inner-workings of the mind. When you suffer from sleep deprivation your mind doesn’t work the way you want it to. This can lead to becoming unfocused and could become physically ill. Which is why curing your sleep deprivation is extremely important.
You’ll begin experiencing memory loss, trouble thinking, mood changes, and a greatly weakened immune system. According to Sleep Health.org, In America, 70% of adults report that they obtain insufficient sleep at least one night a month, and 11% report insufficient sleep every night. This is a staggering number that can easily be overcome through sleeping techniques, and/or using sleep technology.
As mentioned throughout this article, it is extremely important to firstly, understand when you’re feeling sleep deprived, and also, searching for solutions on how to overcome it.
It is not uncommon, and sleep deprivation can be easily cured. Perhaps it’s a good thing to take a step back once in a while and find stress free environments to help you relax.
It could be a good idea to take up yoga or focus on meditation techniques. This will not only help you overcome sleep deprivation, but also keep your mind, body, and soul feeling fully rested, so you can take on each day with an energetic glow.

Can you remember a time when you can wake up and say “I was sleeping at last”, if not then maybe you need this article to help you unlock the secrets of getting better sleep. Getting yourself to that sleeping at last eureka feeling is easily accomplished by following these few techniques. Getting that better sleep that you deserve can be a very difficult thing to accomplish especially if you’re working long hours, which will have a negative impact at work, and don’t have the luxury of a stress-free environment. Well, we’re here to help.
It comes as no surprise that there are numerous wonders to sleeping at last. For one, your body not only wants to sleep better but also needs to. Without a good night sleep, your body will suffer both mentally and physically.
Consider this, have you ever had a rough night, and the next day you feel entirely drained, unable to focus, feeling harder to move? Well, this is the early signs of lack of sleep, and far away from sleeping at last. Our bodies need a good sleep, and restful one at that. So let’s get on with techniques to help you sleep at last.
It truly goes without saying but, a stress-free environment is a huge factor that greatly impacts your sleep. If you really want to begin sleeping at last, you need to make sure your surroundings are entirely stress-free, either at work and at home. Otherwise, stress is a trigger which switches your brain in constant overdrive, and no one can sleep well under stress.
Believe it or not, but staring at the aching lights from your phone is not doing you any favors for your sleeping pattern. The blue light emitted by your screen restrains the production of melatonin in the brain, the hormone that controls your sleep-wake cycle. If this is affected it becomes even more difficult to fall asleep and wake up refreshed.
Yep, for all, you fitness haters, unfortunately staying in shape and healthy greatly impacts the way you sleep. If you want to get sleeping at last, then you need to be careful of your diet, and make sure you’re getting plenty of exercise.
After explaining a few techniques about helping you sleep at last, you must consider the amazing advantages of doing yoga. Yoga helps you focus on your breathing which distracts yourself from regular, daily worries, and most of all reduces anxiety and stress. There are so many benefits to yoga, not only does it help improve sleeping problems such as insomnia, but it also builds physical strength and flexibility, breathing, and mental focus.
When you’re working extremely long hours and are unable to get enough sleep, can directly impact your productivity at work. Having a good night sleep is essential for the body to function fully. If we look at the strenuous cycle that many people between the ages of 18 - 34 go through they usually only get between 5 - 6 hours sleep a night, lacking in a lot of rest. “According to a 2018 study of more than 10,000 people, the body’s ability to function declines if sleep isn’t in the seven- to eight-hour range”
We’ve all had those days where we feel as though we haven’t had a good night sleep, in most circumstances we probably didn’t, which significantly reduces our energy levels and in-turn reduces our focus. Sleep is a very needed ingredient among humans and without it, we resort to more unwarranted characteristics such as moodiness, irritation, and frustration. Especially for industry professionals like doctors and nurses.
We are seeing a terrible outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which has led to more and more people losing precious hours of sleep, rendering the conclusion that they’ve not had a good night. For which, they will be underperforming at work, perhaps even being accidentally negligent causing serious injury to people. We must not give in to the nasty feeling of exhaustion. This is why it is imperative, to have a good night, we must find ways to assist our brains in feeling comfort and ease when falling asleep.
Naturally, our minds often wander before going to sleep, some people think of work, while others think of more calming thoughts. Between the two which would ensure a good night of rest? I’d say the latter, but how do we switch our minds off from the things which are bothering us to calm ourselves into a more relaxed state?
Mounting evidence suggests that a good night's sleep seriously boosts productivity. One study of 4,188 U.S. workers found "significantly worse productivity, performance, and safety outcomes" among those who slept less, and estimated a $1,967 loss in productivity per worker due to poor sleep.
Kemmis, S., 2019. The Science Of Sleep And Productivity. [online] Zapier. Available at: <https://zapier.com/blog/sleep-and-productivity/> [Accessed 7 July 2020].
You must learn to discipline yourself more closely to ensure that your mind is fully distracted before you go to sleep. If you want a good night then scrolling through social media into the dead of the night is just another form of distraction, which will lead you to have low productivity at work. We usually suggest not looking at your phone before sleeping, try not to drink alcohol, and cut carbs before going to bed. This will significantly increase your chances of having a good night and also a more productive day the following morning.
What many people have found is that meditation has serious benefits to aiding you before sleep. Like many people, we don’t have time to meditate before sleeping. However, there are many products on the market which can easily assist you with this. One is our new Dreamlight Zen sleep mask. These types of devices are designed to help you fall asleep faster and ensure your mind is fully relaxed.
As you may have realized, after reading this article, is that a good night sleep is fundamentally important to have a more productive work-cycle, we cannot function properly without our sleep. This is why finding ways to greatly improve your sleeping pattern is imperative, not only to your work but also to your health. We must all have a stronger sense of what aids us when getting a good night sleep.]]>

Most eye masks either apply pressure or are uncomfortable. When I saw the Dreamlight Ease and heard it did not, I had to try it. The Dreamlight Ease is a light-blocking eye mask that is water-friendly and feels light.
Anyone that is light sensitive or has trouble sleeping could appreciate it. For some, the light can keep them up at night. Blocking it out can take care of that problem for some.
Using 3D facial mapping technology, they have made a mask to fit anyone’s eyes. They block the light 100% making them some of the best eye masks available.
I have found that it’s useful for relaxing at home or trying to get sleep on planes or even in bed. It’s great for sleeping because it creates total darkness.
Dreamlight Ease has a lot going for it.
I knew it would be effective, but not this effective. It truly is 100% light blocking. I did not know that eye masks could be that way until I tried the Dreamlight Ease.
Time after time, I block the light out totally. It is perfect for sleeping on trains or planes. I give it a 4/5 for being such convenience and joy.

Ease Lite is an eye mask that offers 100% light blockage and comfortable design. It is comfortable and designed to be a perfect fit. I had trouble finding an advanced eye mask that was not bulky. I saw the Ease Lite and didn’t know what to think until I was lucky to try it out. The Ease Lite eye mask is portable and light blocking, perfect for on the go or at home in bed.
Anyone that could use a better night’s sleep. Not only does it fully block the light, but it is comfy. It was designed so that it can be worn for hours without being irritating.
Many people know that darkness equals good sleep. Good sleep improves all aspects of life. Sleep does not always happen at home, though.
I got the Ease Lite because of traveling mostly. It’s hard to fall asleep on a plane or at a hotel, but not with Ease Lite.
It has great specs:
I knew it was great right away. As soon as I tried it on, it was confirmed. I originally wanted it mostly for travel. However, now I use it to fall asleep at home regularly.
I learned that pairing it with white noise in the background or even silence makes for the perfect sleep conditions. The Ease Lite eye mask is a great sleep and relaxation aid.
It is well worth the money. I give it a 5/5 because of the great value and relaxation it offers.

How many times a week do you wake up feeling groggy? And how many times do you hit snooze before clambering out of bed? If the answer is more often than not, it's likely you've tried to rectify the issue with either more hours in the sack or a more consistent sleeping pattern. Perhaps you've even employed the help of a sleep tracker to help log how your body is operating during the night.
And if so, you'll already know that trackers aren't necessarily the best solution to help understand the rest your body requires and, in turn, feel more refreshed when you wake up. And it's an issue that Shenzhen-based startup Dreamlight is aiming to tackle head-on - literally.
The company's smart sleeping mask, which has just broken through its funding goal of $30,000 on Indiegogo, uses adaptable lighting, customisable sounds and even artificial intelligence to tap into your genetic profile and determine what kind of sleeper you are. The hope is that this can help improve your habits and sleep for good, with early backers able to pick up the device from $169 ahead of expected shipping in April.
Read next: Sleep metrics explained
"There's obviously a trend regarding the quantified self; everyone is trying to track something. But most wearables generally fail to create a regimen for you to improve your sleep routine, and the mask is something we feel is a better and easier way to do this," Dreamlight's James Sung told us.
"There are research and scientific data which suggests that orange light actually helps you get to sleep — this is something that's been tested by the likes of NASA, for example. A lot of people believe that you just need total darkness, but we've found that's not necessarily the case. Dreamlight users will get an orange LED inside the mask which they match to their breathing, and it's something which has shown can help people get to sleep more effectively.
"Then, once the heart rate monitor detects the user is sleeping, the mask can emit infrared lighting around the eyes to help reduce dark circles. And finally, if you've set a time that you'd like to be woken up, the mask emits green lighting within a specific period to suppress melatonin production. As a result, you wake up more naturally and feel more refreshed - or at least that's the pitch.
"There's also machine learning involved, with the device eventually getting to a point where it's able to pick when you should be waking up and when to incorporate the lighting into your sleep," said Sung.
As Sung indicates, the smart lighting capabilities of the Dreamlight are at the core of improving your sleep, but this is also backed up by four internal headphones feeding sound to the user. Through the mask's companion app, wearers are able to select between a combination of white noise, sounds from nature (such as falling rain), light music, and binaural beats to play in the background, something which the company included after certain studies suggested this lowers heart rates, reduces stress and improve restful sleep.
Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) — a sound-induced tingling — is also available through the mask, with sliders in the app allowing users to select when and how they want the range of sound effects to pop up during the night.
But, as we mentioned earlier, it's not just about tracking. Sung indicated that the data gathered is also interpreted to help gauge the user's specific sleep requirements and build a personalized sleep profile.
"There are certain genotypes that determine what kind of sleeper you are, which is why some people can work through the night and why some people can function on less sleep," he said.
"The mask is able to automatically determine this and give you recommendations based upon this. Some people sleep for eight hours, but they may feel less rested than if they slept for five hours, and these are things that we can tell the user through the app."
As is the case with other trackers, the app will also provide a breakdown of your night, telling you how much time you spent in light and deep sleep, as well as your average heart rate throughout the night. Once it's tracked enough sleep data, it'll begin offering advice for how you should tackle your sleep.

For everyone but the journalists covering the show, CES 2018 is apparently all about catching up on and improving the quality of, your sleep. One company focused on getting you better-rested is Dreamlight, which is building an eye-mask that, so its founder claims, will help you get some more shut-eye.
The chunky foam eye mask wraps around your head and is secured by velcro, with special inserts to ensure no light can peek in around your nose. Inside, however, are flexible circuits that house a quartet of speakers, infra-red sensors, an optical heart-rate monitor and LED panels in front of your eyes. It's comfortable, and the darkness that the eyemask offers is certainly better than the shades you can buy from a corner store.
The LED panels are for the sleep program, and will gently blast you with 15 minutes of orange light in order to stimulate melatonin production. After that point, you'll be shut off from the outside world with the eyemask, which keeps you in a dreamlike state until you set a wake-up time.
When it's time for the new day to begin, the mask will blast increasingly-light green hues toward your eyelids, which is more apparently invigorating than the traditional blue. In addition, the device can play a number of sounds, from white noise to your own music collection.
Of course, the presence of both the optical heart-rate monitor and the accelerometers and gyroscopes in the eyemask means that it can also track your sleep. Using the companion app, you can learn how long you rested the night before, and learn about the quality of your sleep.
The company has partnered with 23andMe, and apparently can craft custom sleep profiles that are tailored to your genetic makeup. One such profile is "Da Vinci's Sleep," and should you have the requisite profile, the company claims you can train your brain to require less sleep and still be productive. In addition, Dreamlight will offer up a six-day jetlag plan to help you get over that special fatigue you feel when you've traveled across several timezones.
Battery-life wise, founder WIll Wu believes that the eyemask will last for up to four nights on a charge, depending on use. If you use the built-in headphones to stream music from your smartphone, for instance, then you can expect that figure to fall.

Every time I’m back in Asia, it seems like I’m meeting with another sleep mask company. And every time, I wonder aloud about how the technology might ease the soul-grinding 16-hour flight home. Last year, Brinc-backed Silentmode lent me a unit for the long flight, along with a final night in Hong Kong’s notorious Chung King Mansions hostel (long, unfortunate Booking.com story on that one). I liked the idea, but ultimately found the product cumbersome — a particularly egregious issue for someone who already finds its impossible to sleep on planes for longer than a 20-minute stretch.
Straightaway, it’s clear that Dreamlight has a leg up on Silentmode as far as design is concerned. It’s thinner, more streamlined and, for those concerned about such things, just better looking. Though I’m not sure how much that last bit matters to most, as you’re doing your damnedest to get comfortable on a long international flight.
Ultimately, what’s more, interesting to me is the direction the company’s going. Silent mode is very explicitly not designed for meditation. There’s certainly something to be said for focus on doing one thing (sleep) well, but meditation really seems like a no-brainer for these sorts of products. Its founder also mentioned to me that the company didn’t include lights in the device, because who needs to stare at another screen. Again, fair enough, I suppose, but if done well, light therapy is a pretty compelling addition.
All of those things are baked into Dreamlight’s latest product, the Zen, which, as its name implies, is really focused on the meditation crowd. Here the system pulses orange light along with synchronized audio through the embedded headphones. The startup’s got a handful of first-party content preloaded on the device, or you can connect it to your smartphone to use Calm or Headspace.
Unlike Silent mode, which is looking to content subscriptions to help monetize, Dreamlight’s all about the hardware at the moment. The company does appear eager to team with a third-party meditation app to help provide content in the future, but for now, you can just bring your own via Bluetooth.
The design’s really the thing here. The company’s done a fine job creating a comfortable wearable. I can only speak to wearing it in a well-lighted conference room during the day, but it seems like it would be easy enough to fall asleep with the thing on. The eye region, in particular, is well designed, doing a fine job eliminating light leakage without applying any pressure to the eyes.
The Pro version runs ~$300. The new Zen is roughly half that. The company also created a sleep-mask-only version, which strips it of its electronics. That runs $29, a small price to pay for a less miserable marathon flight.

Startup Dreamlight debuted a new sleep mask at CES that makes a number of promises, including the ability to lessen the effects of jet lag, recommend adjustments to your sleep habits based on your 23andMe profile, and, um, project infrared light to supposedly help with under-eye circles.
Aside from some of these questionable claims, the Dreamlight mask does have concrete features that are unique and can help you get a more restful night’s sleep. I tried it for a night, and it does work. The Dreamlight is a heavily padded and contoured strip that wraps around your head and attaches with velcro. The design is meant to spread out any pressure applied to the face and block out as much light as possible. It also has an optical heart rate monitor, infrared sensors, accelerometers, gyroscopes, and four speakers embedded in the sides.
Like most other products, there is an accompanying app. The app allows you to track sleep patterns over time, set when to wake up, choose what ambient sounds to play while you’re falling asleep, and, according to the company, make sleep recommendations based upon your 23andMe genetic profile.
Perhaps most intriguing is that Dreamlight displays light inside the mask via LED panels in front of your eyes to both help you fall asleep and wake you up naturally in the morning. Light is the only way to wake you up if you’re using Dreamlight’s app; there’s no ability to set an alarm.
I was able to try out the mask for a night and was excited as I’ve been on a quest for several months to find the perfect sleeping apparatus. I use a traditional sleep mask, but my partner snores, which often wakes me up in the middle of the night. I could wear something like earplugs or Hush smart earbuds, but I don’t like the idea of having something in my ear all night. There just aren’t a lot of over-ear sleep mask options out there with integrated speakers, never mind any of Dreamlight’s other fancy features. This solution can fill a niche.
I wasn’t able to get the full experience — the app is only available in Android beta and I have an iPhone — but I could still use the quick start menu on the front of the Dreamlight. This allowed me to set the current time, language, and the time I wanted to wake up. I then set it to give me 20 minutes of infrared while I slept because the worst thing that can happen is nothing and the best is somehow, I look more refreshed?
Once I was ready to go to sleep, I strapped it on, activating a pulsing, warm-colored light (meant to trigger melatonin production to make you sleepy) and ambient sounds. The Dreamlight rep told me I was supposed to catch my breath with the pulse of the light, leading my body to relax and fall asleep faster. I was dubious about using light to make me fall asleep, but I got into the rhythm and was out almost instantly. The green light used in the morning was also pleasant to wake up to, and, I really did feel rested. For whatever it’s worth, this entire week at CES, the app I normally use to track my sleep, Sleep Cycle, has said my quality of sleep has hovered around 70 percent. The night I used the Dreamlight mask, Sleep Cycle said my quality of sleep was 90 percent.
Ultimately, there’s no denying this is a bonkers sleeping mask that has some very useful features but also some dubious assertions. Can it really gain insights from your 23andMe profile to make you sleep better? Will the infrared light actually solve dark circles? Can it accurately recommend a sleep schedule to beat jet lag? There’s no basis for the claim that genetic tests can tell us sleep recommendations. Also, I asked what research the company had to support the infrared claim, and a rep said it was working with Chinese universities, but couldn’t point me to any published research.
On the other hand, waking up by light is proven to work as an alarm, and it’s highly unusual to find it built into a sleep mask. That, combined with the speakers in the sides, are the two most useful and tangible things that would convince me to get one and basically wrap my head in a pillow at night to shut off the world.
Sleep masks are certainly helpful, but be aware that there’s a healthy reason to call into question some of Dreamlight’s claims.
